Coach's Comments
Blythe is an athletic setter that demonstrates leadership and is very competitive. She communicates well with her teammates, is coachable and confident on the court. As a 2027 grad, she can continue to develop physically and has great potential to play at a very high level.
Work on your lower body strength. - The college game is very physical. Having a strong lower body will help you become more explosive and reach a higher vertical. As a dynamic setter, an increased vertical can help you become a stronger blocker so you can run a 5-1 offense and still offer your team great defense at the net.
Continue to be a student of the game. - Your scrimmage play showed your passion, communication and leadership. To find success at a high level as a setter those are great tools but learning to anticipate your opponent's strategies and remain calm during chaotic moments on the court will help you rise above others. If you are prepared and able to think quickly on your feet, it will lead to even more success.
Develop into a dynamic attacker. - As a setter, your job is obviously to run the offense. However, if you can learn several ways to score from your role as a setter you will frustrate opponents and be an even larger asset to your team. The tip to the middle of the court (from front or back court) is a great start. In addition, shooting a tight ball to the corner, from the front using one hand to tip over the blockers into zone four or jumping and attacking a ball from the front will keep your opponent guessing. I feel confident you have the tools to make this happen.
