Coach's Comments |
Sophia had a great attitude at camp and brought energy to each session and game. Her work ethic and coach-ability were top tier, and she would be a great addition to a college program. As a 2024 grad, she has a few seasons of club and high school ahead of her to continue to develop physically and within the game. She has great potential as a college level goalkeeper and has the technical and tactical foundations that will make her successful at the next level. |
Work on strength and goalkeeper specific fitness - To play at the college level, goalkeepers are facing shots from players who may be up to 5 years older and have spent years in the weight room. The more you can build strength, muscle, and agility, the more well adjusted you will be to the physicality of college soccer. |
Sharpen and perfect handling shots and crosses - The college game has pace of shots that most players don't see at the club and high school level. Focus on handling and holding shots and crosses. The more you can hold, the more confident you will be dealing with high-pace shots and crosses in traffic. |
Build your confidence on crosses and high balls - In many leagues, the majority of goals are scored on corner kicks or other set pieces. Focus on meeting the ball at the highest point in the air and come down strong. The more reps you take at dealing with difficult crosses, the more confident you will become. This will become second nature with more practice and experience, but this can set you apart from many other keepers in the game. |
