Coach's Comments |
It was a pleasure to work with Harper at camp. Shane was attentive in sessions and showed a willingness to learn and get better. Harper provided a consistent presence in the build up and in the attacking third and his ability to run at players was key for his teams in matches. As a 2026 graduate, Harper has the potential to become an elite player. |
Finishing - Continue to work on how clinical you are in the attacking third. Your goal as an attacker should be to score at least force a save off a high percentage chance. Whether it be your dominant foot or weak foot, can you consistently put the ball in the back of the net when in and around the 18. The ability to play a dangerous final ball can also fall under finishing. When you beat a player 1v1, can you play a varied service from a wide area? Whipped in crosses, driven crosses, or even chipped balls into the back post can all be dangerous. |
Reading the Game - Continue to work on finding dangerous spaces in different phases of the build up. Understand when to come inside versus when to get in behind. Where is the dangerous space? As a wide player, is it on to go 1v1 or is it better to wait for the overloading run underneath or coming around you. |
Speed - You can work on your speed by training on the field and doing sprints. Getting in the weight room and building your core and lower body will also directly influence how fast you can be. Being faster than the attackers you are playing against or when in 1v1 situations can help make up for times when your technique may fail you or you read a scenario incorrectly. Developing an elite 1v1 move at speed can be impossible to defend. |
