Coach's Comments |
Nick had an excellent day with us at the Exact event in Las Vegas. The first thing you notice about Nick is that he LOOKS like a GK. And then from there, his play absolutely does not disappoint. He carries himself with confidence and plays the same way. He has good hands and makes both the routine and the big saves look easy. He is a natural athlete- powerful, explosive, springy- and absolutely uses that athleticism to his advantage. He's good with the ball at his feet and makes the right decisions with the ball. Nick will, without question, be a very good college goalkeeper. |
Focus on improving your hands - As you know, this is a HUGE deal to me. Along with good footwork, your hands are the most important piece of being a high-level goalkeeper. If you are dropping balls that you are “supposed” to catch, you will find yourself having to make saves on rebounds and giving up goals you shouldn’t be giving up. |
Be completely aware of the "quality" of your communication - The content of your communication is spot-on. However, I would like for you to be more aware of the way it comes out of your mouth. I think you are more "aggressive" with your direction than you need to be- and it can come across negatively to your teammates. The last thing you want is for your teammates to be resentful of you and what you say as it can become a distraction- and they may begin to tune you out. |
Become exceptional at dealing with crosses - Where I didn’t see you having to deal with many of these, it is a very big part of the college game. Everyone is bigger/stronger/faster/older when you get to college. You will see a significant number of balls served into the box and you will be required to deal with them. Find some friends and have them pump balls into the box- and then deal with them under pressure. Do this over and over and over. |
