Coach's Comments
Emma has very good technical abilities but what I really like about her are the intangibles. She plays higher up on the field and is very communicative with her teammates. She is clear and concise and speaks in a positive manner. She has good instincts and mostly makes the right decisions in tough situations. All of these things are much harder to teach than the technical components - which she is still very solid on. Pretty good hands, pretty good footwork, is comfortable with the ball on her feet, and is an athletic and agile player.
Handling/Footwork - Just needs to be a bit cleaner with the hands and a bit quicker with the feet. Things will happen much faster in the college game so your handling and footwork really needs to be close to perfect for when you get up to that level.
High Balls - Practice both getting up high and catching while landing on two feet, and also driving out a little bit more to punch. You're not the tallest goalkeeper around so going up into traffic might pose an issue - not one that you can't overcome, but one where you'll need to be clean on your decision making and ability to either catch high and secure or punch and retreat.
Mid-range/Long-range distribution - Comfort playing through the back is essential, but what can be overlooked at times is your ability to ping 30-yard balls over a single defender or to force the opposition to respect the ability to drive a goal kick or ball from the ground 20 yards over midfield. If we can't play a long ball LONG, opponents will often just sit high on us knowing we won't have another option. Develop the longer distribution tools for your arsenal.
